From hospitality to estate agency, and never leaving Amsterdam again.

I come from the hospitality trade, and I think you can still tell: I love people, a good conversation and that little bit of extra attention that makes the difference. I became an estate agent in 2008, first with a few franchise organisations, until I started out on my own in 2016 with Makelaar in Amsterdam. A tough start, in the middle of the crisis, but that is exactly why I know how it feels when a sale does not happen by itself, and what people need then.

Amsterdam is my city. I know it down to the year of construction and the foundation, but my favourite spot is still the Spui and the streets around it: the book market, a table outside and the people who are always walking by. Right there, at Café Luxembourg, I met Hadewij. That was more than twenty years ago now. We became partners, and when I started Makelaar in Amsterdam it went without saying that we would do it together.

What drives me: really helping people at an exciting moment, whether that is buying or selling. I am direct and honest, and I would rather give clear advice than a smooth sales pitch.
